In the past few years our city has experienced severe ice storms, wildfire and tornados which affected virtually every citizen in Harrah. The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS) programs were started to organize citizen volunteers to be prepared to assist emergency services should we have another major event or disaster.
Many of those who have already joined this group have little or no knowledge of emergency preparedness. Many of the others have backgrounds in various areas that would be essential in supporting an emergency response such medical services, heavy equipment operations, rescue, office experience and communications. Previous training and emergency experience are not required to volunteer. Anyone over 18 yrs. of age with a desire to serve their community in a time of need are welcome to join. Applications are available at the Police Dept. or at the monthly meeting.
Meetings are held the first Monday of each month at 7:00 pm at the Harrah Church on the corner of Reno and Dobbs.
We’d like to encourage everyone interested in participating in these programs to attend the next meeting.
